The name 'Pashmina' is derived from the Persian word for wool. The fine wool comes from the undercoat of the Himalayan Mountain Goat,( Changyra aka Capra Hircus ) which lives in the most remote regions of the Himalayan regions. Pashmina is the softest, exotically delicate and weightless wool of inner part of the goat which is screened several times to get very few amount of pashmina.
